I hope during this series you were able to learn a little bit more about franchising, why franchising exists, and how it may be an option for you if you are looking to run your own business.

Before we move from this series, I want to leave you with a couple of things to keep in your back pocket as you are considering the possibility of franchising:

  1. Talk to other franchise owners. Hear what they have to say about being a franchise owner. Ask them any questions you have. And don’t limit who you speak to. If a franchise company gives you a list of owners to call, dig through and find other owners in the network not on that list to speak with.
  2. Be prepared to hear no or say no. You may start exploring franchise companies and find along the way that some of them are just not a fit for you. You may also find franchise companies that you love who say, sorry you aren’t ready, or you’re not a good fit for us. Be prepared for this and have a plan on how you move forward.
  3. Reflect while you are going through this process. Deciding to own a business offers an opportunity for you to learn more about yourself. Take some time as you are navigating this journey to reflect on what you have discovered, your needs, and desires. Use that information to make the best decision when selecting the business route to take.
  4. Lastly, you are in charge of defining what success looks like for you. Don’t lose sight of that as you narrow down your options and select the patch you will take.
